What to do in Sochi

The Sochi Arboretum

The arboretum is one of Sochi's main attractions. The Arboretum with exotic plants appeared in the city at the end of the 19th century, when N. S. Khudekov bought a plot of land on Lysaya hill and ordered a villa called Nadezhda with a park to be built on it.

Resort Avenue divides the Sochi Arboretum into two halves. To visit both halves, you can use a special passageway under the avenue. A cable car leads to the highest part of the park.

The main elements of the Arboretum are a Japanese garden, ostrich and peacock aviaries, pavilions, goose ponds, statues and decorated staircases. In addition to pine, cypress and eucalyptus trees, many subtropical plants grow in the park.

The Arboretum staff keep it in excellent condition by regularly pruning the plants and keeping an eye on the stairs.

Krasnaya Polyana

The ski resort is now considered one of the most popular in Russia. Its success is linked to the Sochi Olympics in 2014. For this event, Krasnaya Polyana built a new wide road, snowboarding and ski tracks with convenient lifts, an extreme park, restaurants, hotels and tourist complexes.

Krasnaya Polyana allows its visitors to enjoy more than just winter sports. It is suitable for lovers of mountain hikes, walks through forests and the seashore. The area around the resort has beautiful views and fresh air, and the locals make delicious honey.

Olympic Park

The Olympic Park was built in Sochi before the 2014 Winter Olympics. The complex was built in the Lower Imereti Lowlands, on the seashore. The park's sports arenas were used for figure skating, speed skating and curling competitions. They also hosted the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics.

You can cycle, scooter and golf cart through the huge Olympic Park. Every day there is a singing fountain in the complex. The show starts at 19:30 and runs for 60 minutes. Visitors to the park can take a stroll along the beach promenade and check out the rides at Sochi Park. The Olympic venues such as the Fisht Stadium, the Formula 1 circuit and the Iceberg Winter Sports Palace are just as interesting.

Sochi Park

Sochi Park contains many attractions. It is styled after Russian folk tales and looks no less spectacular than its foreign counterparts.

Sochi Park operates a single admission ticket system. This means that with a single ticket, guests at the complex get access to all shows, entertainment and attractions.

The price is influenced by a person's height. Visiting the park is free for people under 107 cm. Guests 107-140 cm tall have a children's ticket, while visitors over 140 cm pay for an adult ticket.

Abandoned sanatorium Ordzhonikidze

Not all of Sochi's attractions sell tours and tickets. There are some unofficial stars of local architecture. For example, the Ordzhonikidze sanatorium. This building is officially closed and guarded, but entry is free.

This sanatorium used to be known throughout the USSR. The building is now empty because it does not meet modern seismic standards, and the neighbouring buildings have been built with irregularities. Now the building is empty because it does not meet modern seismic standards, and the neighbouring buildings were built with irregularities.

Stalin's cottage

Stalin's Dacha is a museum with an unusual atmosphere. There are guided tours inside that help you learn a lot about the place. Although there aren't many historical exhibits in the building, the structure itself and the local scenery make a strong impression. This museum is located in the Green Grove Sanatorium. Its park offers a good view of the immediate surroundings.

Sochi Discovery World

Sochi Discovery World, the largest oceanarium in southern Russia, operates in Adler. It began receiving visitors back in 2009. The oceanarium consists of 29 halls. You can get a good look at the beauty of marine life during a walk through an underwater tunnel with transparent walls. There is also a professional photo studio and a scuba diving pool.

Southern Cultures Park

In the vicinity of Adler's Olympic Park is the Southern Cultures Arboretum. It has been abandoned for several years and is currently undergoing restoration. The dendrological park is great for solitary walks. There are few people and the air is wonderfully clean. If you want, you can feed the ducks and swans by the ponds. It is particularly pleasant to take a walk here in the hot summer, when the shade of the trees hides people from the scorching sun.

The park was founded at the beginning of the 20th century. Originally, it was a landscape park on a hill and a system of ponds. Today, it is home to eucalyptus, bamboo and a rare species of pine.

ul. Navaginskaya

Navaginskaya Street is a quick walk from the Sea Station to the railway station. It's a great place for walking. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and sculptures on this street, and the roadsides are overgrown with tropical plants.

Navaginskaya Street looks photogenic during the day and in the evening. It is difficult to park in the city centre. It is therefore advisable to find paid parking in advance so that you can stroll around Sochi's most colourful places without any problems.

Thysosammit Grove and Chertovy Vrata Canyon

The Yew Tree Grove is an eco-trail along which relict plants and trees grow. The great circle of the grove is 5 km long. The small circle is shorter.

Near the Khosta River, the Devil's Gate Canyon is located. This natural pool is decorated with hanging vines, stone grottoes and boxwood trees.

In order not to get "drowned" in the thick flow of tourists, it is advisable to walk the trail and canyon in the morning. This allows you to admire the caves, castle ruins and other beauties in relative solitude. It is important to be prepared for the grand circle hike: wear comfortable, closed shoes and take a supply of food and water. Walking on the Small Circle is much easier. It is paved and can be walked in less than an hour.

Skypark

Among Sochi's tourist attractions, adrenaline lovers appreciate Skypark the most. It is located next to the Mzymta River, between Adler and Krasnaya Polyana. High above the river is a 400m suspension bridge - the first in the world in terms of length.

A bungee jump is available for visitors to the park. The longest one reaches 200 metres. It is unrivalled in Europe. There is also a swing with a reach of 170m and a trolley with a speed of 150mph. The Via Ferrara climbing route and the Mowgli rope park are very popular with park visitors. If there's one thing to criticise about Skypark, it's the prices.

Travel in a rental car to Abkhazia

Abkhazia attracts tourists with its clean beaches, hospitable people, unspoilt nature and low prices.

After a walk along the beach, you can admire the mountain scenery or visit an ancient fortress. At the end of the fascinating hiking trail, delicious Abkhazian cuisine will help you recuperate quickly.

Gagra is especially popular with tourists. Here people can alternate relaxing on the beach with hiking in the mountains and sightseeing: the Gagra Colonnade, the Gagripsh restaurant, the railway station and the Prince of Oldenburg's castle.

Sukhum offers tourists not only architectural monuments, but also natural attractions. Over 30 hectares of the city is occupied by the Botanical Garden, the oldest in the Caucasus. Thousands of subtropical plant species can be seen there. In addition to regional representatives, these include flora from Australia, East Asia and the Mediterranean.

You can travel by rented car in the Republic of Abkhazia. Just let our manager know about your wish.

Zmeikovsky waterfalls

Not far from Sochi, on the Zmeika River, there is a colourful cascade of four waterfalls. The lower and upper waterfalls are particularly spectacular. You can see the whole cascade by following the path starting from the Zmeika Café. There is a fee to enter the trail.

The trail takes no more than 2.5 hours to walk. You can swim in the upper waterfall. It is therefore advisable to bring a swimming costume and swimming trunks for a summer walk.

Agur Waterfalls and Akhun Mountain

Although Mount Akhun is not very high, it is popular thanks to the tower of the same name. There is an observation platform at the top of the tower, from which Adler and Sochi can be seen perfectly.

In spring and late autumn, the waterfalls look particularly imposing and full of water. In addition, there are few tourists during these seasons. In summer, many people come to admire the waterfalls, so you can't get much privacy. But in the heat you can swim in the lakes below the waterfalls.

Orekhovsky waterfall

The village of Plastunka with its colourful Orekhovsky waterfall is 14 km from Sochi. This two-cascade waterfall reaches a height of 27 metres, making an unforgettable impression on tourists. The route to the waterfall follows the Sochi River.

It takes just half an hour to walk from the stop to the waterfall. The path leads through a forest of chestnut trees, oak trees and mineral water springs. The descent to the waterfall is easy thanks to stairs with railings.

Tesla Museum

Among the world's most famous scientists of the past, Nikola Tesla is considered one of the most enigmatic. You can take a closer look at the inventions of this outstanding engineer at the Tesla Museum in Sochi.

It's hard to call this place a museum — the local exhibits not only can, but must, be touched. Tour guides show in detail how the inventions work and help visitors take part in the experiments. Visitors learn a lot about the museum. For example, young visitors will learn about the nature of electricity and its dangers.

The most spectacular part of the tour is the Tesla show. This performance shows an experiment with lightning, accompanied by electronic music. A very colourful spectacle.

Tea houses in Uch-Dere

Some joke that tea houses are the main pillar of Russian culture in Sochi. They look like terems, where guests are treated to tea with pies, jam and pancakes. Tea here is local. It is grown between Dagomys and Loo.

Many tourists have become regulars at the tea houses in Uch-Dere. In them you can relax after a walk while enjoying a cup of wonderful Krasnodar tea.

It takes ten minutes to drive from Dagomys to the tea houses. They are easy to find from the signs along the road. Parking is available for cars at the barrier.

Akhshtyrskaya Cave

The Akhshtyr Cave is situated in the Dzykhrinsky Gorge, near the village of Kazachy Brod. This is a large mountain cavity that goes 150 metres deep, forming halls and corridors. Some of the halls are up to 10 m high.

Ancient people used this cave as a dwelling, as indicated by the five-metre thick cultural layer. Many primitive tools have been found here. The Akhshtyrskaya cave is now considered a monument of primitive archaeology. To enter the cave, one should go up to the entrance by a specially equipped trail. There are stairs with railings at the entrance, and lighting is installed inside. At the cave entrance you can admire the picturesque view of the Belye Skaly Canyon.
